William Adair founded Direct Insurance Company, the first insurance company in the Direct General Group, in 1991. Since then we have expanded our operations to 11 states in the Southeastern region of the United States through over 400 offices.

Direct Auto & Life Insurance provides coverage for almost all drivers. We will cover you even if you have an SR22, bad credit, or a poor driving record. Although we specialize in non-standard insurance, you can customize your package by adding comprehensive and collision, medical payments, roadside assistance and emergency protection.
Our auto insurance offerings include liability insurance, comprehensive and collision, medical payments, personal injury protection (PIP), uninsured motorist coverage (UM coverage), rental reimbursement, towing coverage, and accidental death coverage.
We offer low down payments and monthly payments. We also let you choose your payment date and how you wish to pay it. You can pay by text, online, in person, over the phone, or through one of our other payment options. You don’t need a checking account or credit card.

When you call, we will collect some particulars from you and give you a unique claim number, which you can use to communicate with us regarding your claim. We’ll also assign you a claims adjuster, who will discuss the details of your claim with you.
You may need to scan, email, or fax some documents to your claims adjuster. If you are not able to do so from home, you can go to your local Direct Auto Insurance office. Our agents will guide you through the claims process and forward the documents to your claims adjuster.
We offer multiple driver, vehicle and policy discounts. For example, we provide discounts for good students and active members of the US armed forces. We have multi-car, multi-product, and mileage discounts.
We offer prior coverage discount for those who have six months of insurance with another company and no lapses in insurance over three months. Similarly, we offer a welcome back discount for those who return to us after at least six months with another company.
We also provide an affinity discount for members of certain organizations that partner with us.
