The cost of auto insurance in Detroit is high for several reasons. Michigan’s no-fault insurance systems mean providers typically charge more to cover their losses. The state also has unusually high minimum coverage limits, including PIP, which leads to increased premiums.
Detroit is a high-density urban area, so auto insurance costs are higher due to the increased risk of accidents. Michigan’s extreme weather — including snowstorms, hail and tornadoes — also increases the chance of accidents and raises auto insurance premiums.
