  • Bodily injury and property liability
  • Medical expenses and personal injury protection (PIP)
  • Collision and comprehensive
  • Custom parts and equipment (including attached sidecars and protective gear)
  • Emergency roadside services
  • Trip interruption expenses

If you’re considering purchasing a motorcycle, State Farm has a tool to see how specific models may affect your insurance costs. State Farm offers insurance for the following motorcycle types:

  • Classic motorcycles
  • Custom motorcycles
  • Factory-built motorcycles
  • Mini bikes
  • Motor scooters
  • Trail bikes

If you enjoy traveling the outdoors in your camper or travel trailer — Oklahoma is home to seven national parks, 32 state parks, and numerous other outdoor recreation sites — you can also insure it with State Farm. RV insurance can cover:

  • Injuries you or someone else sustains while towing the trailer (extended from towing vehicle liability coverage).

High-Quality Coverage for Military

Nationally, USAA offers some of the most competitive auto insurance rates, plus high-quality coverage and customer service, and Oklahoma is no exception.

FACT:

As of 2024, Oklahoma is home to 266,895 veterans, and ranked number 26 in the US for its veteran population.4

In addition to low prices, USAA customers report high levels of satisfaction with the insurer. In the 2024 J.D. Power Customer Satisfaction survey, USAA earned the highest ratings for the central U.S. region, which includes Oklahoma. With a score of 759 out of 1,000, it beat the second-highest rated insurer, Shelter, by over 80 points.

Lower-Than-Average Rates

USAA is known for offering rates well below the national average, and it is our cheapest provider in Oklahoma. With full coverage policies costing around $1,270 a year or $106 a month, USAA costs over $800 less per year than the statewide average.

After USAA, State Farm is our second-cheapest provider in Oklahoma, and our favorite for drivers on a budget who do not have any military affiliation.

Safe Driving Benefits

Insurance companies consider safe drivers less of a risk to insure, which can translate into savings. USAA offers several discounts and perks for good driving in Oklahoma:

  • SafePilot: When you enroll in USAA’s SafePilot program, you’ll save 10 percent right off the bat. You’ll install the SafePilot app on your phone, which tracks driving habits like acceleration, braking, and phone use while driving, a form of distracted driving. You can save up to 30 percent for safe driving.
  • Accident forgiveness: If you maintain a record of no at-fault accidents for five years, your first at-fault accident won’t affect your premiums.
  • Good driver: A clean driving record for five years will not only earn you accident forgiveness, you’ll also get a discount.
  • Driver education: As long as you don’t have any accidents or convictions in the past three years, you can get a discount for completing an approved defensive driving or basic driver education course.

In addition to safe driving discounts, the following are available to USAA customers in Oklahoma:

  • Bundle: Save up to 10 percent when you insure both your home and vehicle with USAA, whether you own a house or condo, or you rent.
  • Multi-vehicle: If you insure two or more vehicles with USAA, you get a discount.
  • Garage vehicle on base: Located less than 10 miles from downtown Oklahoma City, the Tinker Air Force Base is one of the largest in the country. If you garage your car there or at any other military base, you’ll save 15 percent on your comprehensive coverage premiums.
  • Storing vehicle: If you store your vehicle in a secure location due to deployment or another reason, you can save up to 60 percent.
  • New vehicle: You get a discount on insurance for purchasing a new vehicle, and you may find additional savings by financing with a USAA auto loan.
  • Good student: Drivers under age 25 who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA (B average), made the honor roll or dean’s list, or rank in the top 20 percent of their class, save on premiums.

3. Best for Drivers with a DUI - Progressive

What We Like Most:

  • Affordable rates for drivers with a DUI
  • User-friendly digital tools
  • Great accident forgiveness coverage

Progressive is one of the most popular auto insurance providers in the U.S. and is known for offering competitive rates for drivers with a DUI on their record. Oklahoma is one of the states with the most drunk drivers involved in fatal crashes per 100,000 licensed drivers,5,6 so Progressive may be an appealing option to many drivers in the state. It also offers optional rideshare coverage, which extends existing auto insurance coverage into (some, but not all) of the periods someone is operating as a rideshare driver.

Savings for Drivers With DUIs

Progressive offers the cheapest rates in Oklahoma for drivers with DUIs at $2,082 per year on average, even less than USAA and 36 percent below the state average. Drivers with a DUI on their record pay more for car insurance than those with clean records, as insurers consider them a higher risk.

Along with its affordable rates, Progressive provides several other ways to help drivers save money on their auto insurance policies:

  • Compare auto rates: Progressive’s comparison tool allows prospective customers to compare a range of coverages offered by Progressive, as well as its competitors. To use this tool, you will first need to get a quote from Progressive.

GOOD TO KNOW:

The best rates don’t guarantee the best coverage. When comparing quotes, be sure to consider the types of coverage offered by different providers and match up your limits and deductibles for the most accurate and helpful comparison.

  • Name your price tool: Progressive’s name your price tool can save its customers time. Rather than sorting through multiple discounts and calculating rates, customers can determine the amount they would like to pay for their policy, and Progressive will then show the coverage types available within that budget. Drivers will need to get a quote from Progressive before they can use this tool.
  • Deductible Savings Bank: Progressive offers its customers $50 savings from their comprehensive or collision deductible for every policy period they do not file a claim. Customers who opt in to this coverage will have a slight extra cost added to their premiums.

Coverage for Rideshare Drivers

For the rideshare drivers in Oklahoma, Progressive offers rideshare coverage as an optional add-on to its auto insurance policies.

TIP:

Lyft drivers in Oklahoma must meet the following vehicle requirements: 2009 model or newer; 4 doors; 5-8 seats; not a taxi, stretched limousine, or non-Express Drive rental; not titled as salvage, non-repairable, or rebuilt.7

Rideshare coverage works by providing coverage during the “gap” period, which often occurs for rideshare drivers. This is the period between when your normal auto insurance coverage ends (usually when waiting to match with a rider) and when your rideshare company coverage begins (usually when the trip is accepted and you are transporting a rider). Progressive’s rideshare coverage works by extending your personal coverage into the rideshare period.

During the period your rideshare app is on, and you are waiting to match with a rider, Progressive’s rideshare coverage extends the following coverage types, provided you have already purchased them in your existing Progressive auto insurance policy:

  • Bodily injury and property damage — this is also sometimes covered by your rideshare company, but the limits may be lower
  • Comprehensive
  • Collision
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
  • Personal injury protection (PIP)
  • Roadside protection and trip interruption
  • Medical payments coverage
  • Rental car reimbursement

During the period when you’re transporting a rider after accepting a trip, Progressive’s rideshare coverage extends roadside trip protection and rental car reimbursement. Often, your rideshare company will provide bodily injury protection, comprehensive, collision, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage during this period.

GOOD TO KNOW:

Rideshare companies vary in the types of coverage they provide. Be sure to thoroughly review the coverage offered by your rideshare company, and do not assume they will provide certain types of coverage.

Highly-Rated Digital Tools

The Progressive app allows customers to view their policy information, access their ID cards, pay bills, report a claim, request roadside assistance, and explore other Progressive products. Progressive has a highly-rated app, with a rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars on the App Store and 4.6 out of 5 stars on the Google Play Store.

It also earned a top-five spot in J.D. Power’s 2025 Digital Experience Study in the service category with a score of 715 out of 1,000,8 indicating that existing customers are very satisfied with the ease of use and functionality of Progressive’s digital tools.

4. Best for Customer Satisfaction - Shelter

What We Like Most:

  • Local agents provide strong personalized service
  • New car replacement included on all auto policies
  • High financial strength ratings

Shelter Insurance was founded in 1946 and is headquartered in Columbia, Missouri. It operates in 15 states, including Oklahoma, and underwrites policies for auto, property, business, farm, life, and more. Its rates in Oklahoma tend to be right around the average, but it beats out competitors when it comes to customer satisfaction. Shelter does not allow for online purchasing, so you’ll need to get in touch with a local agent.

Excellent Customer Service in Oklahoma

Regional providers tend to have high customer satisfaction ratings as they are specialized for the local market and generally rely on agents for personalized service, and this is the case for Shelter. It ranked first in J.D. Power’s 2024 Auto Insurance Study for the Central region, which includes Oklahoma, with a score of 677. Technically, only USAA received a higher score, but it’s not officially ranked because it doesn’t meet the study’s eligibility criteria.

In addition, it received a rating of B- from the CRASH Network,9 just missing the Honor Roll and ranking 34 out of 97 insurers. This study looks at auto shops’ experience working with insurers, and a high rating means that claims are managed seamlessly, leading to a better experience for the policyholder.

Shelter also has an NAIC Complaint Index of 0.98 as of 2024,10 meaning it receives slightly fewer complaints than expected in the market.

Strong Coverage Options

One benefit of Shelter is that it includes new car replacement coverage automatically on all auto policies, in addition to the standard bodily injury and property damage liability coverages. Shelter’s new car replacement will pay for a new car of the same year, make, and model if yours is totaled less than a year after you bought it and has fewer than 15,000 miles.

In addition to the included coverages, here are the optional coverages that Shelter offers to help you customize your policy to your needs:

  • Comprehensive coverage
  • Collision coverage
  • Medical payments
  • Personal injury protection (PIP)
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist
  • Temporary transportation coverage
  • Roadside assistance
  • Accidental death
  • Disability income coverage
  • Gap insurance
  • Loss of use

Auto Insurance for Oklahoma Small Businesses

If you use your vehicle for your business, you’ll need special business auto insurance to cover it, which Shelter offers. If you have business-use cars, SUVs, light trucks, or vans, Shelter provides the following optional coverages:

Policy Add-on Description
Added Paint and Equipment Covers damage to aftermarket paint and equipment. This is helpful if you have a vehicle with your business’s branding.
Disability Income Provides you with a weekly stipend for up to a year if you’re disabled and unable to work because of a car accident.
Emergency Road Service Reimbursement Reimburses you for roadside assistance from any service provider you like. You just need to submit your receipt to your agent or Shelter’s customer service department.
Employers’ Non-Ownership Liability Applies to claims arising from the operation of vehicles you don’t own but are used in your business.
Hired Automobile Applies to hired vehicles under your supervision.

If you use box trucks, semi-tractor trailers, farm vehicles, or other larger trucks for your business, Shelter also offers optional commercial auto coverages. These include Employers’ Non-Ownership Liability and Hired Automobile, which are the same as above, as well as Audio/Visual Equipment, which covers the accidental loss of audio or visual equipment that receives or transmits audio, visual, or data signals and isn’t designed solely for sound reproduction.

Customizable Add-Ons

In addition to standard offerings, Farmers has options you won’t find with every other insurer.

Policy add-on Details
Declining deductible Reduce your collision deductible by $50 (6-month renewal) or $100 (annual renewal) as long as you stay claims-free. After 3 years without a claim, you get this benefit without an additional charge.
Enhanced roadside assistance In addition to standard 24/7 roadside coverage, such as jump-starts, lockouts, and towing, you get the following benefits:

  • 100 miles of towing rather than 20
  • Funds for a rideshare to continue your trip if your vehicle breaks down
  • Mobile battery testing and installation (cost of battery not included)
Vehicle replacement In the event of a total loss, Farmers will replace your vehicle with a newer one, and if your vehicle is financed and the total loss payout does not cover the remaining balance due, Farmers will pay off the loan or lease gap.
Glass deductible Reduce your deductible to $100 for glass damage and pay no deductible for chip repairs that don’t require glass replacement.
Accident forgiveness If you are at fault for an accident, Farmers will not increase your premiums. You can use this benefit once every 3 years. After 3 years without an at-fault accident, you get this benefit without an additional charge.
Rental and alternative transportation Farmers offers two options for this coverage: either it helps pay for a rental car while your car is in the shop, or Farmers pays a daily stipend up to the limit you select, to use as you want each day your car is in the shop.
New original parts If available, Farmers will pay for new parts from the original equipment manufacturer (rather than aftermarket parts) in the event of a covered loss.
Customized equipment In the event of a covered loss, Farmers pays to repair or replace permanently installed aftermarket equipment (e.g., suspension upgrades, custom stereos). The customizations must be over $1,000 to qualify.
Rideshare and food delivery Rideshare and food delivery companies’ insurance policies only offer liability coverage and do not protect you during the period when you’ve turned on the app but haven’t yet picked up a rider. Farmers extends the coverage of your personal policy to protect you when the rideshare company doesn’t.

Methodology

We choose the top car insurance providers in Oklahoma by assessing insurers across four principal criteria: cost, claims process, customer satisfaction, and coverage options. Here’s a closer look at how we evaluate each category:

  • Pricing (40%): We looked at average yearly costs for full and minimum coverage for safe driver profiles in Oklahoma. We also examined average premiums for profiles for drivers with a poor driving record, like those with a DUI, accident, or low credit score. Lastly, we examined the provider’s range of discounts and whether they included significant savings opportunities like safe driving programs, student discounts, or bundling. Individual state limits apply for minimum coverage. For full coverage, we use the following limits:
    • Bodily injury liability: $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident
    • Property damage liability: $100,000 per accident
    • Uninsured and underinsured motorist bodily injury: $50,000 per person/$100,000 per accident
    • Comprehensive and collision: $500 deductible
    • Claims Handling (25%): We prefer companies that provide a speedy and fair claims process. We considered third-party studies like J.D. Power’s Auto Insurance Report for insurance companies offering policies in Oklahoma. Additionally, we turned to agencies like AM Best and Moody’s for financial strength ratings, which reflect whether a company can fulfill claims payouts.
    • Customer Experience (25%): Customer experience involves getting a quote, buying a policy, and dealing with the provider. We assessed customer experience based on these factors — online quote and buying process and regional customer satisfaction ratings (J.D. Power U.S. Auto Insurance Study) for Oklahoma and data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
    • Coverage Options (10%): We prioritize companies that offer extra coverages in Oklahoma. These include add-ons like vehicle replacement, gap coverage, and accident forgiveness.

Using these key criteria, we’ve compiled an extensive, data-first overview of top car insurance options in Oklahoma.
