Here’s a closer look at these companies:
State Farm is one of the few companies in Las Vegas that offers below-average rates for most drivers and also has a strong customer service record. While it doesn’t have the absolute cheapest average rates, it offers various discounts to help policyholders save. It also ranked in third place and above average for the Southwest region on J.D. Power’s annual customer satisfaction survey. It earned an above-average score in the service category of J.D. Power’s Digital Experience Study, indicating that customers are satisfied with its digital tools.1
Drivers who plan to purchase full coverage (cheaper minimum coverage is available with other providers) and are willing to pay a little more for better customer service. It’s also a good option for safe drivers who want to take advantage of State Farm’s telematics discount program, Drive Safe & Save. Note that State Farm does not currently offer accident forgiveness or gap coverage.

After USAA, whose eligibility is limited to the military community, Travelers has the cheapest average rates for full coverage in Vegas. It’s also among the cheapest providers in Nevada for certain high-risk driver categories, including drivers with an at-fault accident or a DUI. It also sells non-owner insurance, and will file SR-22s.
Travelers is a good choice for drivers on a budget. It may not be the best choice for those who prioritize customer service, as it scored lower than average in the Southwest region on a recent J.D. Power study.

In 2021, the most recent year for which there is data, there were 20,324 car accidents in Las Vegas, which accounted for about 43 percent of accidents in the state of Nevada.6 Las Vegas is the largest city in Nevada, but it still accounts for a disproportionately high number of accidents, as it represents only about 18 percent of the state’s population.
Drivers in Nevada must have auto insurance in order to legally drive — according to Nevada state law, policies must include at least the following liability limits:
Nevada’s minimum coverage requirements are quite low and may not offer enough coverage if you’re in an accident. If you can afford to, it’s a good idea to increase your liability limits and add full coverage. You may also consider adding uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage to help pay for damage if you’re in an accident caused by an uninsured driver.
While minimum coverage provides basic protection, it’s almost always wise to increase your limits and add full coverage to cover damage to your own vehicle.
The cheapest car insurance in Las Vegas is minimum coverage, which costs an average of $1,697 per year in the city. The cheapest companies for minimum coverage are USAA and GEICO, with average annual premiums of $893 and $962, respectively.
The cost of car insurance is so high in Las Vegas due to several factors, including high population density and traffic congestion, a high rate of vehicle thefts, and high repair and medical costs.
No, Nevada is not a no-fault state. It follows an at-fault system, which means that the driver who is at fault in an accident is responsible for paying for the other party’s medical costs and property damage.
To get lower car insurance rates, one of the most important things you can do is avoid violations, including tickets, accidents, and DUIs. Violations can significantly increase your rate, and each subsequent violation will raise your rate further. If you have poor credit, working to improve it can also lead to lower insurance rates. Finally, be sure to always shop around with multiple companies and ask about discounts to get the best deal.
