State Farm is the nation’s largest auto insurer, with the wide range of programs and discounts you’d expect from a major firm. In addition to having below-average rates for full coverage and the lowest rates for minimum coverage in Aurora, State Farm rates highly on customer and claims satisfaction measures, thanks in part to the personalized service provided by its network of local agents.
The State Farm Drive Safe & Save program can lower your rates if you drive safely (and as a plus, State Farm advertises that it won’t raise your rates for unsafe driving, unlike other companies’ telematics programs). The company also offers discounts for having advanced safety features; bundling auto, home and/or life insurance policies; and taking a defensive driving course or the teen Steer Clear driver training course.
Nearly every driver should consider getting a quote from State Farm, but it’s a particularly good choice if you prefer working with an agent, need specific coverage (like rideshare insurance), or have a DUI or speeding ticket on your record in Colorado.

Its rates weren’t the lowest in our Aurora analysis, but its average full coverage premium was below the city average.

Aurora, Colorado, had 6,146 car crashes in 2024, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.5 Aurora also ranked fourth in the nation for the worst drivers among U.S. cities in a 2025 study by Consumer Affairs.6 Their analysis of 2024 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data found the following:
You can’t eliminate a high incidence of traffic accidents in your city, but you can take steps to drive safely. Consider raising your liability limits, adding collision coverage, or using a telematics app to monitor — and possibly improve — your driving habits. You may qualify for telematics discounts.
Over the past 14 years for which data is available, Aurora experienced a clear upward trajectory in both total fatalities and fatality rates, especially after 2015. By 2023, Aurora’s fatality rate (16.5) rose to significantly exceed the national rate (12.2), indicating that traffic risks in Aurora have increased at a faster pace than national trends.

Car insurance laws in Colorado require all drivers to maintain liability coverage with the following minimums:
Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage is optional in Colorado. So are comprehensive and collision coverage, which protect your vehicle against damages in an accident. Unless you reject it in writing, $5,000 in medical payments coverage is included with your auto insurance policy.8
These liability limits are low. If you get into a major accident, minimum coverage may not be adequate. Higher limits for bodily injury, property damage and medical payments, as well as additional comprehensive and collision coverage, are worth considering, if you have the budget.
USAA and CSAA offer the cheapest full coverage car insurance in Aurora, Colorado, with average monthly premiums of $161 and $166, respectively. The cheapest minimum coverage auto insurance is from State Farm, at an average monthly rate of $64.
Car insurance in Aurora is more expensive than the national average. In Aurora, full coverage car insurance averages $2,810 per year, compared with $2,356 nationally, and minimum coverage averages $1,092 per year in Aurora, versus $722 per year nationally.
Multiple factors contribute to Aurora’s high auto insurance rates. Colorado was the worst state for auto theft in our analysis of motor vehicle theft by state, with 583 thefts per 100,000 inhabitants in 2023. Snow, sleet, rain and wind create hazardous driving in Colorado. Aurora also ranked fourth for having the worst drivers in America, according to a Consumer Affairs study. Overall, rising repair and car replacement costs are driving up auto insurance rates everywhere, creating a perfect environment for high rates.
As expensive as car insurance is in Aurora, $300 a month is still higher than the city averages for both full and minimum coverage insurance. However, average rates don’t necessarily reflect what you’ll pay for a policy. Many factors affect car insurance rates, including your age, vehicle, driving record and coverage types.
For the best gauge of what you should pay for auto insurance, get car insurance quotes from at least three providers based on your information and requirements, and ask about auto insurance discounts that can help lower your premium.
