Why we chose it

State Farm is the nation’s largest auto insurer, with the wide range of programs and discounts you’d expect from a major firm. In addition to having below-average rates for full coverage and the lowest rates for minimum coverage in Aurora, State Farm rates highly on customer and claims satisfaction measures, thanks in part to the personalized service provided by its network of local agents.

Minimum Auto Insurance Requirements in Colorado

Car insurance laws in Colorado require all drivers to maintain liability coverage with the following minimums:

  • Bodily injury liability: $25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident
  • Property damage liability (to others): $15,000 per accident

Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage is optional in Colorado. So are comprehensive and collision coverage, which protect your vehicle against damages in an accident. Unless you reject it in writing, $5,000 in medical payments coverage is included with your auto insurance policy.8

These liability limits are low. If you get into a major accident, minimum coverage may not be adequate. Higher limits for bodily injury, property damage and medical payments, as well as additional comprehensive and collision coverage, are worth considering, if you have the budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

USAA and CSAA offer the cheapest full coverage car insurance in Aurora, Colorado, with average monthly premiums of $161 and $166, respectively. The cheapest minimum coverage auto insurance is from State Farm, at an average monthly rate of $64.

Car insurance in Aurora is more expensive than the national average. In Aurora, full coverage car insurance averages $2,810 per year, compared with $2,356 nationally, and minimum coverage averages $1,092 per year in Aurora, versus $722 per year nationally.

Multiple factors contribute to Aurora’s high auto insurance rates. Colorado was the worst state for auto theft in our analysis of motor vehicle theft by state, with 583 thefts per 100,000 inhabitants in 2023. Snow, sleet, rain and wind create hazardous driving in Colorado. Aurora also ranked fourth for having the worst drivers in America, according to a Consumer Affairs study. Overall, rising repair and car replacement costs are driving up auto insurance rates everywhere, creating a perfect environment for high rates.

As expensive as car insurance is in Aurora, $300 a month is still higher than the city averages for both full and minimum coverage insurance. However, average rates don’t necessarily reflect what you’ll pay for a policy. Many factors affect car insurance rates, including your age, vehicle, driving record and coverage types.

For the best gauge of what you should pay for auto insurance, get car insurance quotes from at least three providers based on your information and requirements, and ask about auto insurance discounts that can help lower your premium.
