In New York City, there is less than one vehicle per household (one of the lowest vehicle ownership rates among major U.S. cities)1, making carshare services a popular transit option in Brooklyn. For Brooklynites who like to get around in rentals, carshares, or borrowed cars, Travelers offers affordable non-owner insurance, which provides liability coverage for injuries and damages you cause to others. It does not cover damage to the vehicle you are driving.
In addition to non-owner insurance, Travelers has many other add-on coverage options, including gap insurance, accident forgiveness, and new car replacement. It also ranked above average for customer satisfaction in New York in J.D. Power’s most recent study.

New York Central Mutual, also known as NYCM Insurance, is a regional insurer exclusive to New York State and offers affordable rates and exceptional customer service. While pricing data isn’t available for Brooklyn specifically, it has some of the lowest average rates in New York, including for teen drivers.
Among the coverage options available is new car replacement, which is available for vehicles less than three years old and is particularly valuable if you also have a young driver on your policy, as they are at a higher risk of accidents. NYCM also has an accident forgiveness program for policyholders who have multiple policies and have been with the company for at least three years, or policyholders who have been with the company for at least five years if they don’t bundle.
