AssuranceAmerica advertises that it provides “the insurance you need at a price you can afford.” This slogan is enticing for high-risk drivers who are looking for inexpensive coverage. But does AssuranceAmerica deliver what it claims?
As a senior staff writer at AutoInsurance.com, I’ve reviewed multiple nonstandard car insurance companies. Based on my research, AssuranceAmerica is best for high-risk drivers who cannot find coverage with a standard provider. The company offers multiple discounts that don’t require a safe driving history. However, drivers with a clean record may want to consider other insurers, because AssuranceAmerica has higher-than-average rates and only basic coverage types.
I’ll walk you through the details to help you decide whether AssuranceAmerica is right for you, based on our industry research and my experience interacting with the provider.

AssuranceAmerica Pros and Cons
Pros
Coverage for people with bad driving records
Multiple discounts for high-risk drivers
5% of proceeds donated to nonprofits
Cons

How You Can Save on Your Policy With AssuranceAmerica
AssuranceAmerica doesn’t list its discounts on the company’s website, so I called an agent to see if I could save on my quoted premium. As it turns out, there are multiple ways to reduce your car insurance rate, and they don’t require a clean record.
Here’s a full list of AssuranceAmerica’s auto insurance discounts:
- Multicar: Get a discount for having more than one vehicle on the same policy.
- Student: Save on your premium if you’re a full-time student with good grades.
- Homeowner: Enjoy savings on car insurance if you own your home.
- Early shopper: AssuranceAmerica gives you a discount if you get a quote before your current policy expires.
- Payment: You can save on your monthly rate if you pay your policy in full or sign up for autopay.
- Electronic signature: Sign your car insurance documents online to save on your policy.
- Partner discount: If you purchase car insurance through a prequalified partner (like an independent agency), you get a discount.
- Low mileage: This discount rewards you for driving fewer than 7,500 miles per year.
- Package discount: Get a discount when you pair your auto policy with renters insurance or motor club products from AssuranceAmerica.
- Super saver: AssuranceAmerica offers a discount if you sign up for the mobile app, verify your address, and upload photos of your insured vehicle.
- Mobile max: If you have a liability-only policy, you can save by signing up for autopay on the mobile app.
PRO TIP:
Call an agent to see if you’re eligible for additional discounts. Car insurance companies may not list all of the available savings when you get an online quote.
Getting a Quote With AssuranceAmerica
AssuranceAmerica doesn’t offer policies in my state (California), so I went through the online quote process using a clean driving profile for a woman in her 30s in Phoenix, Arizona. It was simple and easy; I just entered my personal information and got car insurance quotes for three levels of coverage: minimum, standard and premium.

The standard level included collision and comprehensive coverage, while the premium plan included those, along with uninsured and underinsured insurance and medical payments coverage.
Here’s how much I was quoted for each coverage level:
| Coverage level | Included coverage types | My annual rate |
| Minimum | Liability | $1,696 |
| Standard | Liability, comprehensive and collision | $2,870 |
| Premium | Liability, comprehensive, collision, uninsured/underinsured motorist, and medical payments | $3,824 |
The average annual rates for auto insurance for all providers in Arizona are $2,676 for full coverage and $1,022 for minimum coverage. That means with AssuranceAmerica, I’d be paying 43 percent more for premium coverage and 66 percent more for minimum coverage.
I noticed that there was only one discount offered during my quote — for downloading the mobile app (and using it to finalize the policy purchase). However, it was convenient to see preselected coverage levels and choose accordingly.
TIP:
If you have multiple moving violations and have challenges getting insured, try nonstandard insurers. We put together our top choices for the best auto insurance for drivers with a bad record.
What Types of Auto Insurance Coverage Does AssuranceAmerica Offer?
AssuranceAmerica’s website doesn’t list the types of coverage the company offers. Based on my quote experience, it looks like AssuranceAmerica’s offerings are limited to standard coverage types, including liability coverage, comprehensive, collision, uninsured/underinsured motorist, and medical payments.
However, I noticed that AssuranceAmerica offers AssuranceAmerica+ Motor Club, which is similar to a AAA membership. Instead of having roadside assistance as an add-on coverage, you can sign up for the Motor Club membership. This is separate from AssuranceAmerica’s car insurance policies.
If you want roadside assistance and you’re signing up for an AssuranceAmerica policy, I’d recommend getting an AAA membership instead, however. You’ll pay less for an annual membership (about $65) and get more benefits, including four dispatches and travel-related discounts.

AssuranceAmerica Customer Satisfaction
AssuranceAmerica is a small regional provider, so there aren’t any ratings from third parties like J.D. Power or CRASH Network. To get a sense of customer satisfaction, I looked at their complaint score and actual customer reviews.
AssuranceAmerica holds a score of 3.15 on The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Complaint Index. On this metric, lower scores are better, and the average is 1. That means AssuranceAmerica received three times the number of complaints as similarly sized companies. When I filtered the results to private passenger insurance only, the score improved to 1.89, which translates to a slightly higher-than-average number of complaints.
I also looked at AssuranceAmerica’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings. I found two separate BBB profiles: one with an “A” rating and one with an “F” rating. Both profiles had similar reviews, which pointed to company practices that gave me pause. These were the most common complaints:
- Being overcharged for monthly premiums
- Being charged after canceling a policy, and not getting a refund
- Receiving poor customer and claims service
- Having difficulty reaching claims adjusters and receiving payouts
It looks like many customers had less-than-satisfactory experiences with AssuranceAmerica. Multiple reviews mentioned being overcharged and not being able to get a refund. Others reported contacting AssuranceAmerica to subrogate a claim (since their customer was at fault) but couldn’t get ahold of anyone, despite calling multiple times.
| Category | Rating |
|---|---|
| NAIC | 3.15 (more complaints than average)1 |
| BBB | 1 out of 5 stars (average of 42 reviews across both profiles)23 |
I also noticed that AssuranceAmerica didn’t have any financial strength ratings. That’s important to consider when you’re choosing a provider, since it speaks to whether the company has the monetary backing to fulfill claims.
Filing a Claim With AssuranceAmerica
To file a claim with AssuranceAmerica, you’ll need to call the company’s claim service line or email claims@aainsco.com. It looks like there’s no option to file a claim directly from the AssuranceAmerica website or app. However, the claims service hours are 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
AssuranceAmerica Website and Mobile App
AssuranceAmerica has a simple, easy-to-use website that allows you to make payments, get a quote, and find an agent. Because I’m not a customer, I can’t speak to whether you can manage your policy on the website. I found the website user-friendly, but it didn’t offer any information about coverage or discounts.
AssuranceAmerica also has an app, called AssuranceAmerica+. I’ve noticed that it’s less common for nonstandard insurers to offer an app, so this is a plus. On AssuranceAmerica+, you can manage your policy, make payments, and access proof of insurance.
The app received a 3-star rating in the Apple App Store and 3.8 stars in the Google Play store. Although the Android version of the app had higher ratings, the best reviews were about customer service and great rates, not the app. Reviews for both the iPhone and Android versions of the app mentioned these complaints:
- Issues with payments
- Frozen screens
- Trouble saving payment or contact info
Bottom Line: Is AssuranceAmerica Worth It?
If you’re a high-risk driver who can’t find standard insurance, I wouldn’t recommend AssuranceAmerica. Based on their pricing, customer feedback, and lack of financial strength ratings, you’re better off with nonstandard insurers that have a track record for reliability. Competitors like Direct Auto and The General have better customer reviews, along with excellent financial strength ratings.
If you have a clean driving history, you’ll find better customer service and lower premiums elsewhere. Drivers who want a robust customer experience should consider other providers, as AssuranceAmerica offers a simple digital experience and basic coverage options.
Frequently Asked Questions
When it comes to customer satisfaction, AssuranceAmerican receives below-average ratings. It has an NAIC Complaint Index score of 3.15, indicating the company receives about three times the number of complaints as other similarly sized companies.
Yes, AssuranceAmerica offers SR-22 filings. Although this is not advertised on the company’s website, AssuranceAmerica is a nonstandard insurer, which means it provides car insurance to drivers who have difficulty getting a policy. Nonstandard insurers typically file SR-22s for their customers.
Methodology: How We Review Insurance Companies
At AutoInsurance.com, we assess car insurance companies across four main categories:
- Price (40%): We compare average rates for full coverage and minimum-liability policies among good drivers with good credit. Full coverage averages are based on the following limits:
- Bodily injury liability: $100,000 per person / $300,000 per accident
- Property damage liability: $100,000 per accident
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury: $100,000 per person / $300,000 per accident
- Comprehensive and collision: $500 deductible
- Claims handling (25%): The best insurers handle claims quickly, fairly and transparently. We evaluate each company’s performance using third-party data from expert sources. We also factor in real-world customer experiences when they’re available.
- Customer experience (25%): From requesting a quote to managing a policy, we look at how simple and seamless the process is. This includes the quality of digital tools, agent support, and mobile or online account access. Our analysis incorporates data from the NAIC Complaint Index, the BBB, and app store reviews.
- Coverage options (10%): We examine each insurer’s selection of coverages and endorsements, prioritizing companies that go beyond state minimums. This includes added protections, like accident forgiveness, gap coverage and rideshare insurance.
