The current implementation of AI varies by company, but providers like Lemonade make it clear that their AI algorithms will never automatically deny claims — they can only either accept claims or pass them onto a human agent for further processing. This mitigates against potential mistakes made by the AI.
Data privacy and security is another concern, though this is not specific to AI — for example, it has been a major worry for many consumers when it comes to telematics programs. Data privacy standards are still evolving, but they should apply to any and all data that insurers collect about their customers. This is particularly important when AI mechanisms are collecting more data than ever before.
With recent advances in AI technology, car insurance companies are leveraging it more and more to continue to improve their processes, helping to streamline their business operations, reduce risk, and ultimately provide an enhanced experience for customers. While many people may be wary of AI, it’s important to be aware of the changes taking place. While AI is not without its flaws, it offers many benefits to insurance companies and customers alike.
While AI can take over a lot of the work that used to be done by human insurance agents, it’s unlikely that it will replace all claims adjusters — at least not in the near future. Human adjusters will still be needed to handle more complicated cases and double-check the AI’s determination in some cases.
